GREEN ENERGY PROJECTS PRESENTED AT EXPO 2020

Montenegrin energy sector, in cooperation with the Ministry of Capital Investments, organized presentation named ‘GREEN ENERGY TRANSITION IN MONTENEGRO’ at the prestigious exibition EXPO 2020 in Dubai.

Participation of the representatives of the Ministry of Capital Investments, Elektroprivreda Crne Gore and Crnogorski elektroprenosni sistem (Montenegrin Electricity Transmission System) in this global event was an opportunity to initiate the new and strengthen the existing economic and investment links with the city and the host country, as well as with the countries of the Persian Gulf and the wider region which is at the same time one of the most dynamic and rapidly progressing regions in the world.

Being aware of the importance and role of Expo 2020 Dubai for promotion of the state and its potentials, energy sector of Montenegro presented Montenegro to the global auditorium as an economically stable and attractive investment destination in the energy field.

The state secretary for energy and mining, Mr. Marko Perunović said during the presentation that Montenegro was a country of huge energy potential and high number of sunshine hours, with more than 240 hours annually in average, which makes it ideal for Solari projects, as well as the country with respectable possibilities for valorization of wind energy resources and development of renewable energy sources. Commencement of implementation of numerous projects in the field of solar, wind and hydro energy in our country represents a significant step forward in the energy transition process, having in mind the fact that future belongs to the green energy which is a strategic objective of our country, Mr. Perunović pointed out.

Chairman of the Board of directors of CGES, Mr. Aleksandar Mijušković addressed the participants on behalf of Crnogorski elektroprenosni sistem. Implementation of the planned projects would imply increase of installed capacity by several hundreds of MW, which represents an investment challenge also for Crnogorski elektroprenosni system. Executive director of CGES, Mr. Ivan Asanović said that the transmission system was prepared for the planned and new challenges and investments in the upcoming period. First of all, implementation of the transmission grid projects for the solar power plant Briska Gora and wind farm Gvozd is in progress, while key investments are expected in implementation of transmission grid and Brezna substation, which would be the main connection for hydro power plant Komarnica, Mr. Asanović said.

Elektroprivreda Crne Gore has a key role in the process of green energy transition, and, as a national electric power company, we are very interested in development and construction of new green energy resources, said Mr Ivan Mrvaljević, Executive Officer of the Directorate for Development and Engineering. He presented investment- development projects in solar, wind and hydro energy. Mrvaljević emphasized construction of the wind farm “Gvozd“ in Krnovo highland near Nikšić as a priority project, with installed capacity of 54.6 MW, which will provide additional 150 GWh of electricity per annum. Mr Mrvaljević pointed out that future HPP “Komarnica“ would represent a significant part of the investment plan, considering its significance in terms of energy, while construction and operation thereof would not impact biodiversity of the picturesque mountain river and its littoral. Installed capacity of the facility is designed at 171.9 MW, while the annual generation amounts to 213 GWh. This project provides great possibilities for investments and tourism development in nothern Montenegro.

The presentation included projects on Solar Power Plant “Briska Gora” above Ulcinj which will be constructed in two phases, whereat the first phase implies a facility with installed capacity of 50 MW, and the other implies a facility with the capacity of 200 MW, as well as Solar Power Plant “Velje Brdo” and floating Solar Power Plants on Slansko Lake. Projects were presented by Mr Bojan Djordan, Executive Officer of the Functional Unit Generation in EPCG.

Potential investors had a chance to obtain information about investment and development projects in Montenegrin energy sector during bilateral and multilateral meetings with our team members.
