52nd anniversary of HPP Perućica, the oldest hydro power plant in Montenegro, marked by fish stocking of Krupac Lake

HPP Perućica, the oldest large-scale hydro power plant in Montenegro, marks 52nd year of its existence and operation on May 12th. This hydro power plant, which is located in the north of Bjelopavlići plain, was commissioned in 1960, and it was named after spring of the river Perućica which rises in the vicinity of the hydro power plant.

System of HPP Perućica, whose installed capacity amounts to 307 MW, with possible annual generation about 1.300 GWh, includes also seven small hydro power plants (located in municipalities of Danilovgrad, Podgorica, Cetinje and Šavnik) with eleven generating units of total capacity of over 9MW and generation of about 20 million kWh, representing precious sources at the time of increasing electricity demand.

HPP Perućica uses waters from the catchment area of the river Gornja Zeta, i.e. waters flowing into the Nikšić field under favourable water head covering short distance between the Nikšić field and the Bjelopavlići plain. System of HPP Perućica also contains reservoirs Krupac, Slano and Vrtac.

As socially responsible company, EPCG decided to appropriate €5.000 for purchase of 1.350 kg of trout for the purpose of fish stocking of Krupac Lake aimed at maintaining and enriching fish resources in artificial lakes.

“EPCG is aware of importance of maintaining fish resources in artificial lakes, constructed primarily for the needs of electricity generation in HPP Perućica, but which became popular as tourist places, especially for fishery and recreation, but also as places where culture events are organized. In this way, as a socially responsible company, we would like to contribute to the community and to express our orientation to development of ecology. About 6.000 pieces of Californian trout will be thrown today into the Krupac Lake of 200 – 250 grams per piece”, Rajko Šebek, Director of Directorate for Public relations of EPCG said.

The fish was purchased from the company “Ribnjak” AD from Nikšić, and the fish stocking was monitored by the Commission composed of representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, Sports – recreational society Nikšić and EPCG. Fish stocking was also attended by the members of ecology section from Elementary school “Ratko Žarić” from Nikšič, as well as by representatives of NGO “Ozon”, known by activities in the field of environmental protection.
