In accordance with the global action "Earth hour", lighting on the dam of Krupac Lake in Nikšić was turned off last night in the period 8:30 p. m - 9:30 p.m. The performance with objective to send appeals to the world leaders, participants of this year’s Summit RIO+20, in Brazil, was also organized.
Ozone’s activists used candles to write +ad infinitum on the beach of Krupac Lake, while the banner, containing the phrase "Save Our Planet" was also shown. The message is intended for the world leaders who will discuss the important issues at the following summit RIO+20, which will have direct consequences for the future life on the Earth.
A large number of students from the Secondary school of Economics and the Grammar school "Stojan Cerović" participated in the action, supporting this event together with their teachers. In this way, "OZON" continues its cooperation with the educational institutions, thus animating and encouraging the youth to actively participate in the social life, especially in terms of environmental issues.
Being involved in this year’s global action “the Earth Hour”, the Environmental Movement “OZON” has initiated a two-month project financially supported by Elektroprivreda Crne Gore AD Nikšić, aimed at raising awareness of the public in terms of importance of the rational use of energy, adequate use of renewable energy sources, as well as importance of the public involvement in making decisions regarding environment.
We hope that the meaning and advantages of sustainable development will be recognized by individuals and institutions of the system, as well as that the leaders at the Summit RIO+20 will make the best decisions for the future of the planet and all its inhabitants, and that our official delegation will convey the message from Nikšić and other municipalities in Montenegro.

STATEMENTS:
„EPCG decided to participate in this global action so as to draw attention to the rational electricity consumption, both for the financial reasons and environmentally responsible behaviour. Turning off the lighting on Krupac dam for an hour enabled saving of 4,500 l of water. If 360,000 households in Montenegro turn off only one 80 W light bulb for an hour, we would save 24,000,000 l of water, i.e. almost 39 t of coal. Although having the low rate of hydro potential exploitation, Montenegro is one of the rare countries generating 70% of electricity from renewable hydro-sources that have a minimal impact on the environment. However, Montenegro lacks 30% of electricity, so the rational consumption implies responsible attitude towards both environment and the household's budget, whereas preservation of resources means being responsible towards future generations“, Ana Ivanović from the Directorate for Public Relations of EPCG said.
“The Environmental Movement “OZON“, also through this project, intends to inspire as many institutions and individuals as possible to reasonably behaviour towards natural resources, to establish reasoned public dialogue about environmental issues and to actively participate in making decisions about the quality of life. We aimed to accomplish two objectives by joining in the global action Earth Hour - to send a message to the world leaders who will take part in the global convention RIO +20, which we actually did through our performance and to emphasize that we consume 5 - 6 times more electricity than the citizens of EU countries, whose member we plan to become, which is something that we have to change in the future.
The location of Krupac Lake in Nikšić was chosen for this action due to its importance for Nikšić and our traditional commitment to promote touristic potentials of Nikšić, which is the largest municipality in Montenegro and in the region. The best confirmation of the justifiability of this action was the beach of “Nikšić sea” full of smiles of the students of the Secondary School of Economics and Grammar School “Stojan Cerović“ and their teachers (some of them even brought their children) with whom we sent a message to the top-level decision makers that we would like for life on the Earth to last infinitely, thus certainly implying proper management of the environment, including, among others, the renewable energy sources. When you succeed to inspire over 250 students of that age to spend Saturday night attending this kind of event, instead of being in cafés, discotheques or in front of the computer that certainly means they are aware of the dangerous habits which should be totally changed. We believe that the time for the vital changes has come and, if we aim to live in a healthy environment, we must express both the interest and willingness to actively participate in decision making, which is that we consider as a responsible attitude towards ourselves and the society”, Aleksandar Perović, executive director of Environmental Movement “OZON” said.
