“The story about Jela who became the queen”

On Wednesday 18 June 2014, documentary film 'Storia di Jela divenuta regina' (The story about Jela who became the queen) was presented in the Royal Theatre Zetski dom in Cetinje at 8 p.m., produced by Franco B. Taviani, a famous Italian director of documentary films.

The film was produced in cooperation with Tierrepi Production and the Ministry of Culture of Montenegro. It is about the princess Jelena Petrović-Njegoš, young and generous Montenegrin, who became the queen of Italy. 60-minutes long film is based on historical facts, archival material, personal experience, modern thinking about Jelena, with special reference to Montenegro of that time and Petrović-Njegoš dynasty.

The film 'The story about Jela who became the queen' was declared by the Ministry of Culture of Italy to be the project of cultural importance in Italy, and the director Taviani was decorated for this work of art by the medal of the Italian President Giorgio Napolitano, awarded to him by Vincenzo Del Monaco, Italian Ambassador in Montenegro, at the opening ceremony in Zetski dom.   

The documentary film was produced in cooperation with the Italian Embassy in Podgorica, the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism of Montenegro, the Old Royal Capital of Cetinje and financially supported by Elektroprivreda Crne Gore, Hipotekarna bank and Terna Montenegro.

Taviani was primarily interested in Jelena Petrović, the princess but also a girl coming from a small country, who became the queen of big and important Italy. 'I am interested in what Jelena brought from Montenegro to Italy. It is pride, persistence and readiness to make important and humane acts', Taviani said.
